Searching with a Partial Word Match

MatchPartialWords-No

Normally the search is based on whole words. So if you search for "state" the results include topics with the entire word "state".
For example, a topic with "The state of the appointment book".

MatchPartialWords-Yes

When you specify the same search to match partial words, the results will include any words with the fragment (letters) "state", such as "statement", "stately", or "estate".

Searches use the Boolean "OR"

Web Help search uses "OR" logic when you type multiple words (or fragments) into the search tex box, so any pages that include any of the words (or fragments) will display in the results.

So if you search for "appointment book", the software considers appointment book or appointment or book, and the results will include

General guidelines

The search logic allows you to run general searches, then scroll through the results to find the specific topic you require.

The search function doesn't differentiate between uppercase or lowercase.

It searches for all specified words, even if they are separated by other words.

Even if you return to the Contents or Index tab, the search results will stay in the Search tab until you either close the Search tab by clicking the [X] Close button on the tab or perform another search. So you can freely investigate specific links without losing the whole search results.

When displaying a topic, investigate around the topic for associated information:

Example

This example uses a partial word match using the fragment "state", resulting in many different variations.
