Processing Patient Triggers

The following explains what happens 'behind the scenes' with patient triggers when a patient record is accessed, and EXACT checks to see if it meets the criteria of any active queries.

To process patient triggers

  1. When a patient record is loaded to be displayed on screen, the toolbar triggers are evaluated as normal, stopping after the first successful match, in which case the appropriate toolbar colour is displayed.
  2. Next the Pop-up messages are evaluated. The main difference is that if a match occurs, the message is popped up but the matching continues, so that all appropriate messages are displayed, one after another.

NOTE: These messages are NOT stored in the patient’s record. No record is kept of them having been displayed.

  3. The messages will look similar to the pop-up notes but without the ability to turn them off:
    Triggered Patient Message
They can be closed temporarily (with the Close button) but they cannot be de-activated.
They will automatically stop displaying once the query criteria are no longer true.
For example, if the query that was used to display the note was that the patient is under 18 (as in the example above), the message will appear on screen each time the patient's record is accessed, until the patient is over 18 years of age.
