Standard Field Editing Using the Keyboard

Key(s)

Operation

Backspace

If text is selected, it deletes that selection. If no text is selected, it deletes the character to the left of the cursor.

Delete or Del

If text is selected, it deletes that selection. If no text is selected, it deletes the character to the right of the cursor.

left-arrow

Moves the cursor one character to the left.

right-arrow

Moves the cursor one character to the right.

left-arrow

Moves the cursor to the start of the word to the left of the cursor.

right-arrow

Moves the cursor to the start of word to the right of the cursor.

Shift left-arrow

Extends selection one character to the left.

Shift right-arrow

Extends selection one character to the right.

Shift left-arrow

Extends selection to the start of word to the left of the cursor.

Shift right-arrow

Extends selection to the start of word to the right of the cursor.

Tab

Moves cursor to the next field.

Shift Tab

Moves cursor to the previous field.

home

Moves cursor to the start of the current line.

home

Extends selection to the start of the field.

End

Moves cursor to the end of the current line.

End

Extends the selection to the end of the field.

'C' key

Copies the currently selected text to the clipboard.

'V' key

Pastes (inserts) whatever is in the clipboard into the current cursor location. If part or all of the current field's contents are highlighted, they will be replaced.

NOTE: Where two or more keys are shown together, this means you should press those keyboard keys together. Because the Shift and Alt key keys can each be held down without being interpreted as multiple key presses, the best practice when using several keys together is to first hold down any of these keys before momentarily pressing an arrow or letter key.
